An Islamic inscription on a pillar in the Martorana Cathedral in Palermo, Sicily, built in 1143. The location of the church was once a masjid, and many of the pillars were reused, thus this pillar in the cathedral that has the Basmala.
Although Muslims ruled Sicily starting in the 900s, the Norman conquest eventually led to the expulsion of all of Sicily’s Muslims by 1300.
