City University has closed its dedicated room used by Muslim students for Friday prayers. Muslim students has urged the university to reverse its decision “unjustly targeted”.
Wasif Sheikh, one of the students, said:
“We feel we are being unjustly targeted. All of our sermons are open, we welcome all students and all staff.
But when you start submitting your sermons to be monitored and scrutinized then there’s a chance for it to be dictated what’s allowed and what’s not allowed. We, as students, don’t accept that.”
Three years ago, the think tank (Majority of Muslim consider them as anti-Muslim organisation working against Islam) Quilliam Foundation released a report attacking the sermons at Friday prayers at City University.
Usama Hasan from Quilliam Foundation, who recently argued that Prophet Adam (Alyhisalam) was not created as human by Allah (Subhanwatalla) as written in the Quran but merely was part of an evolution process in Have Muslims Misunderstood Evolution? organised by Deen Foundation (Who by the way gave me a lot of stick from sharing that video) has said:
“If there was no past history at the university, I think what the students are saying would sound extremely reasonable. However, there has been quite a vicious and nasty history there.”
